Farmhouse
Historic craftsmanship meets modern design: oak trusses, glass, and daylight in a sustainable and comfortable monument.
Architect Arend Groenewegen designs repurposing with Respect: Oak Construction and Glass Accents
This unique, historic farmhouse features a design where most of the attached barn is newly constructed using oak trusses. The wooden beams are exposed throughout. The addition of modern elements, such as a glass walkway and glass interior frames, creates a contrast that reinforces the different time periods.
The large open space with various voids creates an open and spacious feel with abundant natural light. Thanks to the use of sustainable materials, optimal insulation, and energy-efficient installations, this design meets modern demands for comfort and low energy consumption. Heritage values have been respectfully preserved and harmoniously integrated with modern living comforts.
