The MEES foundation recently opened its doors in Prinsenbeek, where it has found its home. This organisation offers day care to children aged 0 to 18 with multiple disabilities.
About 15 years ago, Stichting Mees started as a small care provider in the Haagse Beemden, at Kindcentrum Olympia. Besides striving to provide high-quality care, it is also a priority to ensure that the children feel truly at home. Located in the heart of a primary school, interaction with the pupils was very natural. Collaboration was quickly found, whether it was Mees children participating in regular classes or primary school pupils joining the Mees Foundation. All this emphasised the importance of inclusiveness and having a place for everyone.
With the growing need for space, both for care and because of laws and regulations, it became clear that the current location was no longer adequate. After an extensive search, the premises at Logtenburg 2 in Prinsenbeek were found.
Major renovations were needed, but this opportunity was seized with both hands.
Architect Dick Embregts created a well-thought-out design for this property, which allowed the conversion to start quickly.
On 1 October 2023, the keys were handed over and with the help of local entrepreneurs, especially NR furniture and interiors, and a lot of their own efforts, they are now proud of the result.
Because of the children’s specific care needs, it was important for the children to feel as comfortable as possible. In our experience, lighting contributes greatly to this.
By using various light colours and dimming options, an atmosphere is created that radiates complete tranquillity. In particular, a starry sky has been installed in the snooze room, which, combined with tranquil images and sounds, can give some children the comfort they need.
The collaboration with TES Installatietechniek enabled us to complete this project very well. The technical insight of TES installation engineering and the experience of Berla Lighting was the perfect symbiosis for this beautiful project.
Stichting Mees offers day care six days a week and organises sleepover weekends.
